Diabetes Prevention in the Workplace March 9, 2023 9-10 AM CT
As a health plan sponsor, you likely see diabetes in your top spend, with individuals with diabetes costing as much as 2 -3 times more than non-diabetics. 1 in 3 workers are prediabetic and are at higher risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes and its associated higher costs and co-morbidities.
The Mid-America Coalition on Health Care, under a grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), would like to help you better understand the costs of diabetes to your organization and the options you can consider to prevent diabetes' risk and impact.
Two national speakers, Sara Hanlon from the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors and Charlene Wallace from the American Diabetes Association will share the growing concern from employers and the financial impact of diabetes as well as the importance of lifestyle change programs for those who are prediabetic. There will be an open-line panel with the speakers and with other attendees for you to get the information you need to act now.
This event will cover:
- The cost and prevalence of diabetes in general
- The impact of comorbidities from diabetes including cardiovascular disease, kidney disease including transplant, cerebrovascular disease, blindness and peripheral neuropathy
- Why employers should prioritize prediabetes treatment in the workplace
- Proven medically-covered lifestyle change programs you can include in your benefits offerings
